ENG: Montgomery County, MD Audiologist

Montgomery County MD AudiologistAn ENG, or Electronystagmography, evaluates dizziness and balance disorders. This testing allows your specialist to locate malfunctions in the mechanism that allows you to maintain balance. When these malfunctions do occur, they can cause dizziness and even hearing loss. The test, performed by your Montgomery County, MD audiologist, takes approximately one to one-and-a-half hours, and it's painless. Although we have two offices in Montgomery County, Maryland, this test is only performed in our Olney, Maryland office. Sinus sufferers and others must be sure to avoid taking antihistamines and a range of other medications for forty-eight hours prior to testing. For details, read the ENG link on the Hearing and Balance Testing page. We do not provide ENG testing at our Silver Spring, Maryland office, but we perform many other types of assessments at this location. Call either office and they will guide you to the correct location for the services you require.

ENG, Montgomery County, Maryland: Sinus Medications

The ENG test involves placement of electrodes on the forehead and close to each eye. Then, eye movements are traced as the head is moved to various positions. Also, small amounts of warm and cool water irrigate the outer ear canal for forty seconds; this fluid runs directly out again. Though some patients experience slight dizziness with this cooling and warming from the irrigation, the discomfort is temporary. Your Montgomery County, MD audiologist can then analyze the date retrieved from this test and make possible suggestions. At both offices in Montgomery County, Maryland, sinus and migraine sufferers are reminded to abstain from a list of medications and other drugs for two full days prior to the procedure. Also, patients are encouraged to have someone drive them home or to arrange for some alternate form of transportation, as slight dizziness following the test is common.
